The government of Ontario is seeking input from anglers about a potential modification to the province’s recreational fishing regulations. Currently, holding onto a prohibited catch is against the law and any action that would prevent immediate release is not permitted, causing difficulties for activities such as catch-photo-release fishing contests and amateur fishermen who wish to take pictures or obtain measurements of their catches. Ontario Fish and Wildlife is suggesting a revision to the regulations that would explicitly permit a delay in release for the purpose of taking photos, measuring, and weighing the fish.
